Ultimate Gift Guide: Gift Ideas for Men

If you’re looking for gift ideas for men, which could mean your boyfriend, husband or father, you know it’s usually very hard to think of one. Men are notoriously hard to buy presents for. Why?

Well, for one, men don’t usually want anything specific – most of them will tell you “Oh, I don’t need anything, baby” or “I don’t know, whatever you want….”.

Secondly, the job can get ten times harder if they don’t have a particular hobby or passion for you to work with. Luckily for me, my boyfriend loves board games, so I’m an expert here; see my gift guide for board game lovers. My dad, on another hand, is notoriously hard to please.

But I am here to help you if you’re stuck. We can get through this together, and who knows, you might find him a great present he will actually enjoy!

Instead of listing all the things you might buy for him, I will mention categories of gift ideas for men.

I suggest going through each one and seeing if he needs something from a category (new pair of shoes, or new beard balm, etc). Or if he enjoys things from one specific category (if, for example, he likes skincare products, or techie stuff).

Here are 7 big categories of gift ideas for men that work great as Christmas Gift Ideas, too: *

1. Clothes & Shoes.

This might be a bore for some, but a welcomed gift for others. I suggest going this route if you know he really needs one of these items. That means, he either doesn’t have it yet, or his own item is too old or has flaws. This section includes:

  • Pijama;
  • Beanie;
  • Gloves;
  • New sweater;
  • Workout clothes;
  • T-shirt;
  • …and the list continues.

Just to give you an idea, I got my boyfriend a bathrobe this year (shh, don’t tell). He always tells me that my bathrobe looks cozy and when I asked him if he would wear one, he said “Sure”.

2. Beauty products

This category of gift ideas for men is not for everybody. I say this because some men are not that invested in self-care. But if the man you are looking for presents IS, then you are in luck. Just see what he lacks or what he needs, or maybe something he would never buy for himself. My recommendations here include:

3. Tech stuff & Tools

This section should hit the spot with most men. Since men are more tech oriented, they are also on the lookout for the newest gadget that makes their life easier (or more fun).

Here some tech gift ideas:

4. Hobbies.

This is where his particular hobby or passion comes into play.

Is he a movie buff? Maybe get him newly released Blu-Ray DVDs, or Criterion classics.

Or maybe he enjoys playing board games, like mine? Check out this gift guide for board game lovers

If your partner or father is into fishing, get him new rods.

The possibilities here are endless, you just have to find out his passion.

5. Accessories.

I recommend this category for the older or more sophisticated men in your life. You might get a wallet for an 18-year old, as a “welcome to adulthood” present, but most teens want something else.

So, when it comes to accessories, you could get him:

6. Alcohol.

This could also be an easy choice, if

1) he prefers a certain drink, like rum or scotch.

2) you really don’t know what to get him, and you know he drinks occasionally.

If it’s a person you don’t know very well, definitely make sure he is not a recovering alcoholic, or part of a religion where alcohol is prohibited to consume.

So when it comes to alcohol, here are some cool alcoholic gift ideas for men:

  • Whisky;
  • Cognac;
  • Wine;
  • Rum;
  • Gin.

You can definitely gift a bottle of alcohol as a housewarming gift, or for the hosts of a holiday dinner. Even for meeting the parents 🙂

7. Tickets / Experiences

If the man you are looking presents for is a social creature, considering gifting him experiences. This way, you will help him create new memories that he will cherish for a lifetime. Just think about what he might enjoy doing, and go for it. You can gift me things like:

  • Concert tickets to his favorite band;
  • Bungee jumping;
  • Race car driving lessons;
  • Dance lessons;
  • Wine tasting;
  • Coupon for the shooting range.

This might be a totally new experience for him, or an experience related to his hobby. Either way, it will be something exciting and fun, and he will definitely remember it.

So here we are. I hope this gift guide for men helped you with some ideas on what to get your boyfriend, husband, father, brother-in-law, father-in-law, etc.

Let me know in the comments what are your favorite things to gift men!
