Now, when I say outfits, don’t think that I wear dresses all day, every day, even when I’m home. No, I usually wear dresses when I leave the house, be it for a Target run, or a brunch with friends. 

I do have some very comfortable summer house dresses, but most of the time you’ll see me in shorts and tank tops in my own home.

I’m the perfect person to ask. I have bad circulation, and even now, when I’m writing this, I’m wearing a pair of socks and some house slippers, and I still feel like I have cold feet.

Well, that’s where Amazon cozy slippers come into play. I love them. They’re extremely useful especially during winter times, when the temperature drops. 

And now, since I do 80% work from home, I find them very comfortable to wear and they make me feel cozy.

Since my feet are enemies of the winter and I always want to be cozy, I got pretty good at picking cozy slippers in the last few years. I usually go for the slip-on, rubber sole, faux fur house slippers, but to each his own. Have your pick, there are so many options online!

2. Women’s Animal Slippers.

These black cozy slippers are adorable. I added them to the list as a fun choice, but they can also be a great choice for people who like very light shoes. I’ve been in your shoes and I can help. I know how confusing it might seem. I know how you can see those makeup tutorials on YouTube and think “I could never do that”. But it’s not that bad. You just have to have patience and be open to a little guidance in the beginning. 

I’ve compiled a list of the most important products you need to have in your drugstore makeup starter kit. Yes, I said drugstore, because there is no point starting the makeup journey with high end products. You might not like some, so you risk wasting money. 

Start with drugstore makeup products. Not only are they pretty cheap, but you can also take chances and experiment with more of them. If you buy lipstick, for example, and you realize you don’t like the texture, it’s much easier and cheaper to go out and buy a 6$ lip-gloss to test, then a $30 one. 

So, where to start? A drugstore makeup starter kit should have 9 products in it.. They are the following: a primer (or moisturizer), a foundation, a concealer, a brow pencil, an eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and a lip product. Everything else is optional, but I will quickly go through some other makeup products you can try, as well.

So if you’re new to makeup or have a teenager in your life who wants to experiment, here is the ultimate drugstore makeup starter kit to help you get started: 

Prep your skin: Primer or moisturizing cream

Most people might not know this, but prepping your skin before make-up, especially before putting on foundation, is very important. No matter what you use, primer or moisturizing cream, you need the base to hydrate your skin and help the foundation look better on your skin. 

So the first product of a good drugstore makeup starter kit is a primer or a moisturizing cream, your choice. Personally, I use a moisturizing cream like this CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30.

If you prefer to go the primer route, the Maybelline New York Face Studio Master Prime is a great choice. It helps blur and smooth, so your face (and foundation) will look better and more even out.

Foundation

When it comes to this product, some might say you can go without it. And yes, you can definitely do that, especially if you have clear skin or if you want a very basic, natural look. But I think you definitely need a good foundation in your drugstore makeup starter kit. For special occasions or bad days with zits. But also because it helps to smooth out and even out skin tone.

My first option will always be L’Oreal, it’s a great brand, especially for this type of product. You can try Infallible Up to 24HR Pro-Glow Foundation, it’s great for a glowy finish. 

My second option, one I’ve recently discovered, is the COVERGIRL Advanced Radiance Age Defying Foundation. It’s a collaboration with Olay and it’s wonderful for the skin, as it has moisturizing elements to it.  

Concealer

I personally don’t use a concealer every day, but I do believe it’s good to have one in case of big zits or dark circles.

This is by far one of the best drugstore concealers I’ve tried: the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Multi-Use Concealer.  

Brow pencil

You might not agree, but I think the brow pencil is an essential item in a drugstore makeup starter kit. Why? Because eyebrows can definitely influence the overall look and impact of your face. Clear defined and filled in brows make the face and its symmetry much more pleasant to they eye. Try it!

I recommend this NYX Micro Brow Pencil. I use this, a foundation and a mascara as my day to day makeup routine. It’s everything I need and it’s so simple and quick to use. 

Eyeliner 

Again, this is a product that you probably won’t use all the times, but you need to have in your starter kit: an eyeliner. It helps accentuate your eyes. You can also create great smokey eye looks with it. 

Try this COVERGIRL Ink It By Perfect Point Plus Waterproof Eyeliner, you will definitely need the waterproof version.  

Eyeshadow

Eyeshadows are, in my opinion, the product that helps you experiment and play with makeup, That’s why it’s important to start with a palette, so that you can try out more looks and colors, and see which one fits you.

I recommend starting your drugstore makeup starter kit with a natural eyeshadow palette. Begin with natural tones and graduate to bright colors later on, after you’ve perfect the application technique.

Mascara

Blush 

Blush is a great option for people who prefer natural, sun-kissed looks. It brings color to your cheeks and makes you glow. 

The Milani Baked Blush in Petal Primavera is a wonderful choice of blush. Pretty cheap, pigmented and highly buildable, it has 11 other shades for all skin tones. Check it out here! 

Lip products

When it comes to lip products for your drugstore makeup starter kit, you can choose how many you like. I suggest starting with lipstick and a gloss or a lip balm.

• Powder. My all-time absolute favorite is the Rimmel Stay Matte powder. Cheap and does its job. 
• Setting Spray: If you plan to be out all day and want to make sure your makeup stays on at a wedding, for example, buy a setting spray, like the NYX Makeup Setting Spray in Dewy Finish.

That’s why recently I had three sessions with a personal stylist. I realized early on that I do not have a creative eye when it comes to fashion. I dress myself ok, but there is nothing special about my outfits. Actually, that’s one of my biggest struggles: I think my style is pretty bland. 

Moreover, in the last few months (maybe a year?) I’ve felt like I have nothing to wear. A feeling most women probably have once a month, am I right? I’d open my wardrobe, wanting to dress for work, and I’d look for something nice, only to be disappointed, and choose an okay outfit 10 minutes later. 

After I’ve had at least 10 similar moments like that, I decided I needed to do something about it. So I called my friend, S., whose passion is fashion styling, and asked for her help. 

Before I begin, I am well aware this is not a service not anyone can afford. But if you can and you have the possibility to do it, definitely go for it. It helped me dress better, feel better in my clothes and it made me love shopping.

Below you’ll find the process she recommends, and what I ended up doing (spoiler alert, I skipped a step because of Covid).

RECOMMENDED PROCESS OF PERSONAL STYLING

My Friend, S., has a clear four-step process to improving your personal style and reinventing your wardrobe. 

Session 1: Meet and asses current style status of client (you)

In the first meeting / online session, the personal stylist and the client meet and get to know each other. Actually, the stylist finds out more about the client, so in this case, you:

• What is your body shape? (you don’t have to know it, she will deduct by seeing you in person, online or from photos)
• What is your current style? What do you like to wear day to day?
• Where do you shop for clothes? What are your favorite stores?
• What do you LOVE to wear everyday? (jeans? leggings? etc.)
• What do you HATE / DON’T LIKE to wear? (heels? dresses? etc.)
• Do you wear accessories? If yes, what kind of accessories do you like / don’t like?
• What about shoes? What types of shoes do you normally wear?
• Most importantly, what do you want to get from this process? (do you want to find your style? Or you need help choosing new clothes? Do you want to get rid of clothes that don’t fit you?

And the list continues. She/He has to figure out YOU, what is your current style and what needs to be improved.

Session 2: Theory and Tips & Tricks

This is one of the most useful steps of the process. 

In this session, the personal stylist tells you what suits your body type and what you should and shouldn’t wear. 

Things like: 

• DON’T wear skinny jeans, but DO wear straight or flare ones.
• YES to tops with color and details
• NO to horizontal stripes on bottom.

The objective is for you to understand your body type and adapt your current wardrobe and next purchases to these rules. 

Ideally, the personal stylist has experience and theory knowledge of what is recommended for each type. This shouldn’t be a subjective process, it should be an objective one. 

Session 3: Wardrobe declutter

This is a cool and very useful step. The stylist comes by your house and basically raids your closet. She/ He

• Tells you what doesn’t suit you and should get rid off;
• Finds the best pieces that you already have and that suit your body type;
• Finds gaps in your wardrobe: what you need, but don’t currently have (or have, but do not suit your body);
• Creates outfits that you could wear from what you already have. 

Session 4: Personal Shopping

The last step is to go shopping together and find the items you still need to complete your wardrobe. Maybe in session 3 you both realized you don’t have a good work dress or a winter coat. She/He will go with you shopping, in order to find the items you need and that suit your body frame. 

Now let me tell you how the process went for me.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH A PERSONAL STYLIST

Session One: Figuring out the client aka ME

Like I mentioned before, me and S. already knew each other. So in our first call, she already knew my body type and what I usually wear day to day, because she has seen me multiple times before.  

Our initial call was more for her to understand what I like in terms of clothes, what I do and don’t wear, and how she can adapt her theory and outfit ideas to my taste. 

We had an hour Zoom meeting where she asked a bunch of questions. I answered and I also showed her some key pieces I had in my wardrobe that fit what she was talking or asking about. Case in point, what blazers and what skirts I had in my closet.

She ended the call by asking me to send her some outfits pics I liked: “Get on Pinterest, or search on Google Images, and send me some pics of things you like and would like to wear”, S. said to me. And I did!

Session Two: Theory and Tips & Tricks for Pear Shape

In my second session, she prepared a presentation for me. It was all about my body shape (Pear), and what I am recommended to wear and not wear.

She also talked about the colors that suit my hair color and skin shade- what types of blue, or green or red. 

In the end, we went over some of the pictures I’d sent here and she pointed out which would fit me and how could I implement them with what I already have in my closet. 

The last step was to schedule a visit to the mall and to write down a list of things we needed to buy. In my case, shirts suited for work, a leather jacket and straight jeans.

Session Three: Shopping with a Personal Stylist

I skipped session 3, the wardrobe declutter, because of Covid, but also because I wasn’t comfortable with certain things being thrown away. So on to number 4.

This was my favorite part: shopping. And that says something because I usually hate shopping. I’m the type who can only shop for 1-2 hours, then I lose my patience and give up. I used to get frustrated because I couldn’t find things I liked or I was sure of. So I quit shopping altogether. 

This time around, I spent around 3,5-4 hours with S. at the mall. 

We went into my favorite stores, but also in some she recommended, and she made me try out things she thought would look good on me. Actually, most of the time she would let me browse, and she would intervene only if I was choosing something wrong. 

Having a partner in crime while shopping definitely helped. Not only did I try out a lot of cool things that I realised actually look good on me, but she also confirmed some of my usual choices, so that was nice. Reassurance is great when you’re shopping….I guess that’s why most women shop with their friends. I got a lot of cool stuff and I left the mall very happy with my purchases, which rarely happens. 

What I learned from a Personal Stylist & How it helped me

The whole experience was eye-opening for me.

First of all, and most importantly, I learned from a specialist what kind of clothes suit me, fit me, look better on me, and so on. That is crucial, from my point of view, because if clothes look good on me, I feel good on them. So, win-win! 

For example, I learned that I should wear less skinny jeans, and go more for straight cut, boot cut, or even flare ones. I used to be the girl who had only black skinny jeans, so this is out of my usual territory, but I am willing to try it because I know the options the personal stylist recommended actually look good on me. And in the end, that is the most important thing to me. That I like what I wear, and that I feel good in it. 

Second of all, I learned what to avoid. That’s also important, because avoiding less-flattering clothing options helps your overall appearance. One thing S. told me was to not go for horizontal lines on the bottom part because that would accentuate my big hips. Same with cargo pants or very light colored pants. They make the hips even bigger, so it’s a no go. Great advice!

Third of all, she gave me confidence to try more things! To wear more colors! To wear more interesting pieces and actually try to incorporate accessories into the mix, which I rarely did before! I believe that the opinion of a specialist, actually the reassurance of one, tremendously helps with self-confidence and discovery, especially when it comes to the fashion style of someone. 

So that’s it! That’s my experience with a personal stylist.

Oh wait, I forgot about costs. Now, this obviously depends on your area. If you want to not spend a fortune on these types of services, I suggest finding someone new in the field, or a local stylist, the costs will be lower! (unless you live in LA or NY, then….I really don’t know what to tell you, I would probably try to find one online)

All in all, I learned a lot from S., my personal stylist, and I especially loved going shopping with her, she helped venture out more! Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it!

Up until my late twenties, my skincare routine consisted of taking off my make-up at night and (sometimes) using a moisturizer before foundation, in the morning. That’s it. I attribute it to my good genes: my skin was looking great, and I didn’t seem to have any other problems.  

I don’t remember the exact time or why I decided to start a better skincare regime. I might have been “convinced” by influencers. Or I might have seen my older sister put so much effort and care in her skincare, that it made me think I should do it, too. Either way, I slowly started adding products in my night routine. A moisturizing cream. Then an eye cream. Sometimes a mask.

Now, a few years in and several experiments later, I know what I need and I know what is good for my skin. 

So I decided to share with you the current skincare products I use day to day. It’s pretty simple, since I don’t like to spend that much in front of the mirror. Here it is:

1. Cleansing.

I actually double cleanse. That means two products. One, a micellar water to take off make-up, like Garnier Micellar Water Facial Cleanser Sensitive Skin. Two, a gel or foam facial cleanser to get rid of the impurities on my face and actually clean it. At the moment I’m using Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser * and I love it, my face feels really clean afterwards. I usually double cleanse at night; in the morning, I just wash my face with water. 

2. Toner.

I’ve always considered Toner to be an optional product. I really don’t think it’s vital to have it, but I do see it’s benefits. At the moment, I am using it after my double cleanse at night, and I use it because an influencer made me do it 🙂 She said it was for people with large pores and that it can diminish them. It kind of works, although my pores are still pretty big. But somehow I still use it, because I like the feeling….for now. I’m actually using a Korean Toner from RNW, it’s the RNW Der. Pore Reducing Toner *. Beware, it has Witch Hazel, if you know you are sensitive to it (it can make you a bit red in the face, but it disappears after a couple of minutes). 

3. Eye Cream.

Some people might disagree with this being a vital product, but personally I love it. I’ve been using an eye cream religiously every night for the last 2-3 years. I don’t use the most potent one out there, but I like how it makes my skin feel and I do think the wrinkles are not that prominent anymore. Right now I’m using Clarins Multi-Active Eye *, I highly recommend it. 

4. Serum.

If the other products were used on and off for the last 5-10 years, I admit I came into the serum game pretty late, specifically about 2 years ago. And honestly, I still don’t know what I’m doing. What I do know is that I like serums that are more to the lotion side, so not oily ones. Right now I’m using a Vitamin-C one, just as night, after my eye cream and before my night moisturizer. It’s the Sesderma C-Vit Brightening Liposomal Skin Serum. I like the texture and it smells great. I already ordered my second bottle, because if it works, I’m not gonna try to find other ones and miss. I’m also using, from time to time, the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, it’s really good and has an interesting texture.

5. Moisturizer.

Except cleaning, this should be a staple in your skincare routine. THIS is important, especially if you have dry skin. It helps keep your face hydrated and the fine lines at bay. I use two moisturizers. In the morning, I put on, before my make-up, the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream SPF 30, and I love it because it also has SPF in it, so I can shoot two birds with one stone (moisturizer and SPF). At night, I use Clarins Multi-Active Night Cream * and it’s probably my favorite skincare product. I like the texture of it, it blends in nicely and, most importantly, it has a very pleasant smell. I highly recommend it. 

So, right now, this is my skincare routine. Although my face isn’t perfect and my large pores still bother me, overall I am still very pleased with it.

Well, it’s almost 2021, you’re probably stuck at home, and really, there is no better moment than this one. It’s time to declutter your wardrobe. If you don’t know where to begin, how to do it, or you just need a bit of motivation, you have come to the right place. 

I used to be you….5 years ago. I finally bit the bullet and started decluttering when I realized I had too many tops that I didn’t wear on a day-to-day basis (or in the appropriate season). So I decided that I have to re-arrange my closet. Get rid of the things I didn’t use and see what else was hiding in the back of the closet. 

It seemed overwhelming the first time, but after a couple of tries I perfected a technique…actually a process, that makes it so much easier. I’m sharing it below, hoping it will help you, too.

So here’s how to declutter your wardrobe and get rid of clothes you don’t need or can’t wear anymore:

1. Schedule at least 2-3 hours for the wardrobe declutter. 

Set aside at least 2-3 hours for the wardrobe declutter. Going through every item of your wardrobe will take time. If you have a bigger closet, consider splitting the process in two days, or allocate a whole afternoon for it. If you set aside one hour and you can’t finish in that time frame, you will quit altogether and leave the decluttering for another week / month / year.

2. Clear out the floor / bed / space you will organize all your clothes.

Since the technique requires making piles of clothes, I highly recommend that you tidy the room before starting, so you have space to organize your clothes. I usually clear my bed and the floor space next to it. 

3. Limit distractions. 

You might be tempted to interrupt the decluttering for a quick call, or a run to the supermarket, or emails. Don’t. If you do this, the process will take so much longer and you won’t get it done in time. Which will make you frustrated and want to quit. 

That’s why it’s important to get rid of the phone, or put it on airplane mode. Tell your partner or housemates that you are busy. Pee before starting. And have some water or coffee nearby for hydration.

4. Start with one category / closet space. 

One way to not get overwhelmed is to start with only one type of clothing item, or one closet space at a time. Don’t take absolutely everything off the shelves and hangers and throw it on the floor. This will make you freak out and blame yourself for the amount of stuff you have (guilty as charged). 

For example, you could start with jeans. Empty out the drawer or the hangers, or go through each pair. But how to decide what to keep or to throw away? Check out the next point.

5. How to ACTUALLY decide what to declutter.

If this part is what is scaring you, I am here to help.

Once you’ve decided on your category, start looking at each item and see if it check any of the boxes below:

• You haven’t worn in 1-2 years; .
• You don’t like the item;
• It doesn’t look good on you;
• The item doesn’t fit you anymore;
• The item is damaged and cannot be repaired.

If the item checks any or all of those boxes, then most likely you’re probably not going to wear it anytime soon. 

So these items have to go. Create an OUT pile on the floor with these items. 

If the item doesn’t check any boxes, but you are unsure, put it in a MAYBE pile. 

If you like them, you wear them all the time, or are items you need for certain occasions (like a  little black dress or ski outfit), then put them in a KEEP pile. Or better yet, put them back in the closet, if you want to.

6. Go through your MAYBE pile.

Go back to each item in the MAYBE pile and inspect it further. Try it on, maybe look at it for 10 seconds. 

Most importantly, see what your instinct says, it always knows best. If your gut is telling you that you won’t wear that anytime soon, then it’s time to go. If you really like this item and realize you can pair with something else, then keep it.  

7. Organize your decluttered items.

Now it’s time to go through the “OUT” pile. To help you in the aftermath of the process, you should create two more piles. DONATE and GARBAGE.

The GARBAGE pile will include items that are stained, broken, damaged and so on. These are items no one can actually wear.

The DONATE pile has good clothes, just not the ones for you. They can go to family & friends, or they can be sent to a charity shop. Or sell them on Poshmark. You choose. 

Now it’s time to organize and clean up. Get two bags or trash can liners, or something similar, and start dividing the piles in their respective bags. This way, it will be easier to get rid of them, and also clean the space after.

8. Organize your new wardrobe. 

After you’re done going through the piles, it’s time to clean and organize your new wardrobe. 

Go back to the clothes you are keeping. Put them back in the closet section, on a hanger or properly folded in the drawer. This will make your wardrobe seem cleaner and give it that “Pinterest” vibe at the end. 

And that’s it. That wasn’t so hard, right? Of course, it depends on the size of your closet. I don’t have a huge space, and since I do the wardrobe declutter twice a year, it helps keep the organization to the minimum.  If you have a huge closet, allocate more time and don’t get discouraged, you can do this.

At that time, I didn’t understand, because all my friends would flaunt their new purchases. I still remember the low-rise jeans trend that I hated, but ended it buying because of peer pressure. I had (and still have) a bit of a tummy, so they definitely didn’t flatter me, but I still bought them.

I’m sure you’ve done the same things over time. Whilst it’s understandable in your teens or young adult phase, your mature self knows better. 

When we reach a certain age, we realize that following trends is not necessary. Instead, we value two things: 

• Fashion Items that look good on US and our body shape;
• Fashion Items in which we feel comfortable and good.

This is where a classic wardrobe comes into play. In order to make sure you always look good, you need to have a few classic wardrobe essentials that you can use in more than one way. 

These classic fashion items should be simple, yet of great quality, and most importantly, they should look good on you. That’s it. It’s all you need to have a great wardrobe and style. 

 Having a classic wardrobe will help in more than one way:

• It will help you save money over time.

If you don’t need to buy something new (and most probably expensive) every season, then you can save money for other things, like vacations, new house, home renovations, etc.

• Your closet will only include items that make you look good….anytime and anywhere. 

This means you won’t have a Fedora hat that was trendy 5 years ago, but you can’t wear it now. Or safari culottes that you can only pack for your tropical vacation. You will only have classic wardrobe essentials that you can wear in your day-to-day life. Simple and efficient.

• You will have more space in your closet. 

More space for bags, or for more pairs of jeans. Or more space for your books or skincare routine. And that’s valuable, because we all need more space in our house, am I right?  

I hope that by this point I have convinced you that you need a classic wardrobe. 

If you want to build one and have classic wardrobe essentials in your closet, here is what you need.

Wardrobe Item 1: Button-up shirt.

This might not seem like an obvious choice for the classic wardrobe, but it is. Especially if you have an office job or if you work with clients. Or if you need to go to an interview. Or to a fancier place, and you don’t like dresses. 

Basically, you need a button-up shirt in your life. Here are a few of my favorites, which you can pair with jeans, trousers, skirts, and the list goes on:

Wardrobe Item 2: Nice pair of Jeans.

For me, this is the most basic clothing item you should own. I don’t think there are a lot of people out there who don’t own at least one pair. 

The key here is to have one or two pairs of jeans that look good on you, and that you like wearing. So no extra tight jeans, or low-rise (if you don’t enjoy that). 

I suggest investing in a good pair, either from Levi’s or a more expensive brand. 

Also, consider buying two pairs. One in black, preferably skinny, so you can wear it with tunics, long cardigans. And one in blue, for a more classic look.

Wardrobe Item 3: Simple T-shirt.

This should be the easiest to tick off the list. A T-shirt. One to wear with jeans, with joggers, with skirts. The possibilities are endless. 

Most people would recommend simple t-shirts with no graphics, just plain color. But I don’t mind a simple graphic or quote on it. It would actually make an outfit more interesting. 

For the sake of diversity and of the mix-and-match process, though, I recommend a plain white T-Shirt, and a graphic one. 

Here are two examples of t-shirts you could have in your classic wardrobe:

Wardrobe Item 4: Little Black Dress.

Are you imagining Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” right now? Because I am. Anyway, you need something similar in your wardrobe. Black dress, no frills, middle length, and most importantly, a dress that suits your body type. If you have a great body, try bodycon. If you have a pear shape, you can have an A-Line skirt dress. Figure out what looks best on you and get in black.

It will save you in so many situations: weddings, office parties, fancy dates, and so on.

When it comes to little black dresses, I suggest going to ASOS, you have so many options available:

Wardrobe Item 5: Sweater.

What would we do without sweaters (or jumpers, for the British)? This is a vital item in your classic wardrobe. Mostly because you need to keep warm. Also because it can be beautifully styled with jeans, skirts, dresses, even shorts. Just go to Pinterest and you will find so many options…

When it comes to sweaters, there is no clear indications on what to get, although I do have two recommendations:

• No Christmas sweaters 🙂
• Go for a simple shape and color, like beige or burgundy.

Wardrobe Item 6: Coat.

Initially, I said a Winter Coat, but some people might be lucky enough to not have bad winters, so I stuck to Coats. You need an autumn or winter coat in your classic wardrobe, if not for the actual seasons, at least for all the travelling you will be doing (you’ll most likely got to colder climates, too). 

This is one item I recommend you splurge one. One, because you need a good, quality coat that can keep you warm. And two, because you won’t need to buy one every year, so you need to make sure this one will last longer. 

You can go for the classic route, and by that, I mean wool, for example. Or if you prefer comfort and are not the dressing up kind, go for a puffer jacket.

Wardrobe Item 7: Leather Jacket.

I’ll be honest. You don’t really NEED a leather jacket in your wardrobe. But you would look so much cooler and stylish if you had one.

This is one of my favorite pieces to have. I usually wear it in the spring and autumn, over t-shirts, or sweaters, with some jeans and Chelsea boots. Put some sunglasses on and some jewelry, and I am ready to conquer the world.

Wardrobe Item 8: Black (or Brown) Bag.

Since most of us can’t just leave the house with just a card in hand, we obviously need a nice bag to put our stuff into, right? 

Just like shirts or jeans, you can find cheaper versions on the market. But also expensive ones (like Dior or Celine). But you could do what I do: go to the middle. 

I like to invest some money in my bags, since I usually carry one for 1-2 years before switching to a new one. But I don’t do designer bags. I like to keep them between the 50-200 $ mark. 

So here are some of the bags I love and I think you might like, too:

Wardrobe Item 9: Flat shoe.

The reason behind this is similar to the shirt one. You need simple flat shoes for moments where you can’t wear sport shoes. So, to the office, to interviews, and with skirts, dresses, jeans, trousers, and so on.

You might not wear them that much in your day-to-day activities, but trust me, you need a pair in your life.

Wardrobe Item 10: Black Heel Shoe.

Another item you don’t wear all the time (well, some of us don’t), but that you desperately need. High Heeled Shoes. What for, you might ask? Simple: weddings, parties, fancy dates. 

Honestly, I don’t like them either, and I rarely wear them (once or twice a year), but I do think high heels are very important to a classic wardrobe.

Wardrobe Item 11: Sports shoes.

The final category might be my (and everybody’s) favorite: sport shoes. Comfortable shoes you can put on quickly and go to the supermarket. Or to run errands. For anything, really. 

Here is where you can go crazy and pick, honestly, whatever you want. Again, I recommend going the simple & classic look, like Adidas Superstar, but it’s your call.

Me? I’m somewhere in the middle. I can’t fathom waking up so early, but I am never late and I like to make sure I am ready to walk out the door….physically and mentally. I don’t rush things, because I already have a set routine that I’ve been doing for a long time, and it works for me. 

I won’t go into all the details (there’s a time and place for breakfast routines, or outfits of the days), but today I want to talk about my morning beauty routine.  It’s quick, simple, and most importantly, it makes me feel put together and ready for the day. 

It doesn’t involve a lot of products, because otherwise I feel my face has too much product on it and I’m….overdressed, if that makes any sense?! Plus I want to save time (more sleep, less time in front of the mirror).

So here is my quick morning beauty routine:

1. Wash my face and brush my teeth. 

First thing I do in the morning is get up, go to the bathroom, pee, then wash my hands, face and teeth. Every day. After that, I feel ready to face the day, without feeling icky or too sleepy. Interesting how water wakes me up the morning, but also calms me down in the evening, when I take a hot shower.

2. Moisturiser with SPF.

I start my actual beauty routine by applying a moisturizer with an SPF in it. As you might know, SPF is extremely important for maintaining healthy skin. And of course, vital for reducing the damage of the sun on it. In order to save time and minimize the quantity of products I apply to my face, I use something like CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen (Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen)*. It’s cheap compared to other brands, easy to find, has a nice texture and it’s also a great base for my foundation.

3. Foundation. 

This can be medium coverage foundation or a BB cream. If I’m going to work, it’s definitely the first option. If I’m just going out to run errands or meet a friend on weekends, I usually go for a BB or CC cream. I’ve been using the Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation in 010 Beige Porcelaine for at least a year and I love it. It lasts almost all days and it blends in beautifully. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but I think it’s definitely worth it. 

4. Mascara.

If you’re not a fan of foundation and just need one make-up item, definitely go for Mascara. It brightens your eyes and makes them larger. (especially important during Covid-19 times, when you have to wear a mask). I’m not particularly picky about my mascaras; right now I’m using Tarte Lights Camera Lashes and I like it. But I am on the lookout for a new mascara. I can never find one that actually gives volume AND curls my lashes. That’s actually my biggest problem: my eyelashes are not curled and I cannot do it myself, no matter how much I try.

5. Brows.

This step isn’t mandatory, but it’s a great way to give structure and definition to the face. I always feel my face look better and more put together when I use a brow product. Since I recently ran out of my usual Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, I’ve been using a dark brown eyeshadow and it works great. 

6. Optional: Setting Spray.

On days I know I am extra busy (or I have to wear a mask), I use a setting spray so that my foundation stays on as much as it can. I recommend the Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. It sets the make-up and it has a great spray bottle (it sprays evenly, unlike other brand bottles I’ve used). 

So this is my morning beauty routine. Simple, with few products and I’m usually done in maximum 10 minutes (with washing and brushing).
